Diesel Performance Engines offers an extensive range of engine machine shop services to build or upgrade the performance and reliability of your diesel engine. Our services cater to enthusiasts and professionals seeking the improvements in engine power, performance, efficiency, and durability. Below are some of the specialized services we provide.
Whether you are wanting a full performance diesel engine build or an upgrade, our workshop is equipped with premium engine reconditioning equipment and our technicians are highly trained and experienced. All engines are assembled in our 24/7 temperature stabilised cleanroom.
Every cylinder block is line honed on our LH-100 line hone as a step in the block preparation. The main crankshaft tunnels in the cylinder block are checked for straight, size, roundness and surface finish. Straightness, size and roundness are critical to supporting the main bearings and crankshaft, and minimising unnecessary stresses and distortions. Correct roundness and surface finish ensures maximum contact between the backs of the engine bearings and the cylinder block to facilitate maximum heat transfer. Line boring work is sub-contracted if required. Bores are machined with main caps and/or main cap cradles and torque plates fitted and tensioned.

Performance cylinder blocks are bored to take heavy section, flanged, ductile iron liners. They provide the strength to keep the bores round and minimise wear. The block parent bores are honed after boring to provide a very smooth surface to maximise contact between the ground outside surface of the liners and the bores to maximise heat transfer and minimise distortion. Liners are liquid Nitrogen frozen to install.
Cylinder bores are diamond hone bored and CBN plateau honed on a Rottler H85A CNC Automatic Vertical Hone. Skilled operators and a range of diamond grades enable the delivery of surface finishes to Rpk, Rk, Rvk and cross-hatch angle specifications. State-of-the-art Mitutoyo Digital Surface Roughness Gauge, Bore Camera and software enables detailed analysis and recording of cross-hatch angles, surface finish and plateau hone.
All conrod big end tunnels are checked for size, roundness and surface finish. If required, the big ends are resized and honed to specification on our Sunnen LBB-1660 conrod hone. The small end bushes are replaced in all secondhand conrods and honed to specification.
All engine components, including the cylinder block, cylinder head and crankshaft are final cleaned in our TierraTech 600 litre, heated, 5100W ultrasonic cleaning tank. With an automated skimming system, the parts come out of this tank incredibly clean – perfect for assembly.
